Igniting Change

Igniting Change works hard to be guided by people experiencing the issues and to give a voice to people who often don’t have one. They work With people, not give to them, and always encourage people to see the person, not the label. Across the country, they invest in the thorny issues that are often hidden from everyday life. Most of the courageous groups and individuals they support are tackling tough, entrenched, often unpopular issues, and struggle to attract funding. Together, Moose and Igniting Change have ignited support that empowers children towards a brighter future, from Alice Springs to Shepparton to the Mornington Peninsula.

Getting back on track with the BackTrack Boys.....

Since 2006, BackTrack has been working with young people who have hit rock bottom. Based in Armidale, rural NSW, BackTrack has developed its unique philosophy to teenage young people who have lost their way and would otherwise fall through the cracks. Founded by Bernie Shakeshaft, the programs reconnect the kids with education, training, and themselves, guided by their four values; belonging, independence, learning, and generosity.

With the majority of BackTrack’s participants being boys between the ages of 12-18, and two-thirds being Indigenous, most of the kids they work with are disengaged from the education system, without supportive families and homes, dealing with psychological and physical trauma and in contact with the criminal justice system.

Heading to the pool for a swim...

Lauriston Girls School, inspired by an Igniting Change, "Meet the People, Feel the Issues' visit to the Prahran flats agreed to open their swimming pool every Sunday to refugee women and children from the local housing commission flats. As well as provide lessons specifically for these Muslim families in a female-only environment which is safe and culturally appropriate.

“It is an absolute joy working with Moose Toys – to listen without judging, to work with people not give to them and to make children happy”
