Serious Fun Children’s Network – The Painted Turtle & Camp Colors of Love

Thanks to a passionate dedicated camp volunteer & Moose team member Megan, we found match made in heaven with Serious Fun Children’s Network.

Thirty five years ago, actor and philanthropist Paul Newman started a free camp where kids living with serious illnesses could escape the fear and isolation of their medical conditions and, in his words, “raise a little hell.” This remarkable concept sparked a quiet movement, and that one camp launched a global network. Today, there are 30 camps and programs serving the needs of children living with more than 130 different medical conditions and their families around the world.

SeriousFun camps and programs provide campers with a spectacular camp experience and high-quality medical care, all in the safest and most supportive environment. For the kids, it’s high-flying, friendship-building, memory-making fun that they often don’t get the opportunity to experience.

To give our local teams the chance to experience our partnerships firsthand, we will be supporting The Painted Turtle in the USA and Camp Colors of Love in Vietnam.

The Painted Turtle is more than a camp

It’s a place where children with serious medical conditions can just be kids. Children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses arrive looking for a typical camp experience, and what they discover is confidence, belonging, and a feeling of acceptance that lasts long after they head home. For many campers, their experience is the best time of the year. For their families, The Painted Turtle provides unparalleled care, education, and well-needed respite. All programs are completely free of charge. Since opening in California in 2004, The Painted Turtle has provided more than 70,000 camp experiences to children with serious medical conditions and family members through year-round programming.

Camp Colors of Love

At Camp Colors of Love, children with serious illnesses in Vietnam have the chance to camp in platform tents, splash on slip and slides, paddle in canoes and enjoy a festival night. Activities are designed to teach campers life and interpersonal skills. The experience also provides children with critical knowledge about their health and medical care, all in the most playful, engaging, and creative ways. The goal is to for children to leave camp with renewed resilience, self-confidence, belonging, and hope. Camp Colors of Love is operated through a partnership between SeriousFun and the Worldwide Orphans Foundation. We are super excited to volunteer and get actively involved in the fun!
